Jeepers Creepers 2 is another terrifying horror movie, it is a based on a story that a evil demon or monster is living near a farm and captures people away taking and eating people one by one, the first person to be captured by the demon was the farmers child in which he found hard to find again, because the creepy monster or demon comes back every 23 years to feed himself, when the demon returned he made sure that a near by school bus with teenagers coming back from a football match would stop so he delibratly throws a nife at the tire and punctures it, after this the school children and the teachers are stranded in a middle of a countryside which gives the demon a chance to attack and capture the people one by one in which he does so which makes it very scary in how he takes the students and feeds on humans to live.

the reason why this film relates to our 2 minute film opening is because the way the storyline and the plot is in this horror movie, it is very similar to ours by having a unsual person maybe a ghost or monster attacking students one by one which builds the scaryness withing the film helps to make it more suspense and terrifying for the adudience, in which is why we chose this because alot of people enjoy watching these type of horror movies, because it thrilling and mostly brings alot of fear towards the audience in which they are challanged to watch it.

Saw, this extremely gruesome film was released in 2004 and made upto 6 series in its following years, this horror film is about people or a person locked up in a room and have no way out the only way they can get it is by playing the game that has been set out for them by some mastermind killer, if however they lose the game and end up failing then they will die in a most horrible way that most veiwers will see, which is why its has been nominated a couple of times for being the most scariest horror movies ever to be seen. this film will carry on getting people trapped in all sorts of ways and killing them in the most gruesome way possible which can be heavily disturbing which is why its a 18.

The reason why it relates to our film is because, the situation of the people who are trapped or lost is similar to our film where one person attacks an individual one by one, which therefore leaves alot of blood and mystery which is why i chose to have a similar storyline but in a diffrent scenarion, so the gruesome parts and more relating to my film which is what we really need to add the much more spice to our horror based 2 minute film opening.

Paranormal Activity, is an american based horror movie, it was released in 2007, it made  $194 million worldwide which made it to be one of the most profitble movies made, the film is about two young couple moving into their new home and start to film their daily lifes, however they notice something unusual when they left their camera on whilst they were asleep, so they started to film everynight and found out the house was infact haunted by a demon, this lead the demon to become more angry and hauting the both couple, mainly on the lady in which in the end is possed by the demon and eventually kills her husband.

we chose to have this similar idea in our film, because seemed like a new idea and had alot of publicity and veiws which we wanted for our horror movie, where students in detention late at night get attacked by some kind of ghost or demon, sounded perfect and looked to be an amazing idea, if we was to expand it and make it more pleasing we needed to see some techniques used in this film which help alot.

These storyboards were rough ideas of the 2 minute film opening, our main drawer was Adnan who had the artistic skill and also had a couple of good ideas, like the rest of the CASE production team such as myself, Ekjot and chris, this took us quite alot of time to think and scrap old ideas and bring in new ones which were diffrent and unique for our movie, altogether to create the storyboard took 1-2 weeks which was a good amount of time to think and bring in ideas. some of the ideas thats in the storyboard has been cut out and replaced with other brilliant ideas, and some shots have been changed to other such as long shots are now medium shots because of the size of location, but apart from that the storyboards helped out alot to stick to the idea of the 2 minute film opening and not get confused.

Script

As a group we had decided to stick to one script and make sure that it was the same so that everyone didnt have diffrent peices so it would be less confusing and complicated. this script is mainly the script of the 2 minute film opening and a rough idea of what will be happening in the film.

Script:

Sulaiman: 'If it weren't for you, we wouldn't be here in the first place'
Chris: Well, if you didn't listen to me all the time and do what i tell you, we wouldn't be in this mess would we?'
Ekjot: 'Excuse me, can please be quiet and I'm trying to o some work here'
Chris: 'Because of this idiot were in detention'
Sulaiman: 'Yeah, we need to sort him out' 
Sulaiman: 'Watch this' (throws pencil)
Ekjot: 'Guys! Can you please leave it out'
(Ghost comes in the scene, puts his hand with blood on the window)

Ekjot: (Sees the blood hand print) 'What the?!'
Ekjot: 'Guys! Do you see that?!' 
Chris: 'Oh my god!, what is that?'
Sullaiman: 'Nothing, he's probably playing a prank on us'
(silence)
(Door slams shut)
(All stand up)
Sulaiman: 'What was that'?
Chris: 'I don't know' 
Sulaiman: 'Ok guys, calm down, this could be some sort of prank'
Chris: 'This is no prank, this is real'
(class room light switch off)
(Bang and creaking sound)
Sulaiman: 'Guys, whos is that?'
Chris: 'I really don't know' 
(scene switches to CCTV camera)
Sulaiman: 'Ekjot? Ekjot is that you?'
(Ekjot screams and shouts whats going on and shouts for help)
Sulaiman: 'Ekjot!'
(Sulaiman takes his phone out)
Chris: 'Oh Sully, is that you? I can't see'
Sulaiman: 'Yeah it's me, my phones got a torch, lets go and find Ekjot'
Chris: Oh I ain't going anywhere'
Sulaiman: 'You staying here?'
Chris: 'Yeah'
Sulaiman: 'Ok, suit yourself '
(Switches to Suliaman's phone and starts looking for Ekjot)
Sulaiman: 'Chris, I think I see something'
Ekjot: Sully! Ahhhhhh!
Sulaiman: 'Ekjot! oh god find the light switch'
(Turns on the class room light switch)
(Sulaiman sees blood all on the floor)
Sulaiman: 'Holly Sh*t! Chris! Chris?'
(No reply from Chris)
(Sulaiman turns around)
Sulaiman: Oh my god, Chris!
(Chris is dead with blood all over his face, chest and floor)
Suliaman: 'Whats going on!?'
(Classroom lights switch off again)
(Ghost (Adnan) walks in)
Suliaman: 'Who's there?'
(Switches to CCTV camera)
(Ghost carries on walking towards Sulaiman)
Suliaman: 'Who are you?'
(Swiches back to sulaiman's phone)
Sulaiman: 'No! No! Please don't! Ahhhh!'
(BANG!)....

Casts, Props and Costume

As a film group we had decided that we all will be in the film and have diffrent roles, we chose what we wanted to be, so that everyone was comfortable in what they was meant to do which is important, because actors need to film comfortable in what they are acting otherwise it would look as much good if they wasnt comfortable. therfore me, Ekjot and chris where the school students and adnan was the zombie/demon which he would attack us one by one.

Props wise we had alot of thinking and help from other groups who had filmed and done the similar theme as us so it helped alot to ask help from others who are more experienced, we wanted to make it look scary and horrible and the same time, so we decided to go for alot of blood and screaming which was exciting, everyone was fine in putting blood all over their face and clothes, the main props we used was books and pencil, what you would normally find in a average school detention, where students are most likely doing work.

For costume we decided to go for the simple look, our school uniform we didnt want to go over the top and buy another uniform each or a suit that was exactly the same, so this saved us time and money and gave us plenty of time to think and film on other important things, the costume was perfect for the mis en scene and did the job well.

Health and Safety

Its very important to do a risk assessment otherwise things can go wrong and everyone is responsible for someones accident if ever happened in filming, so what we did when we was filming in the class room, i first told the teacher we will be staying upto 3-4 hours to film and was given permission to do so, then i had looked at the room and got rid of things that were dangerous and harmful, my idea was to remove the tables and chairs that was not needed in the film so it would give us enough room to film, so that we didnt have to bump into things that was in our way, also it was important to tell the caretaker that we was here so that incase of an emergency he would be near to help and that he wouldnt lock the doors just untill we had finished filming.

Location

 choosing a location wisely is important, therefore the whole group of CASE production such as, me, Ekjot, Adnan and Chris decided in many location wich was suitable for a film which was a zombie attacking school children, this meant filming outside of school was appropiate so we needed to find a perfect location in school, so the whole of CASE production group went round and had a look for a good enough location in which in the end was successful.

we found many location that would be great for a horror themed based film, such as the drama room which was dark or the old english corridor which looked spooky enough, but it didnt have much horror scene into it, so we decided for a much better location which was the maths rooms and the maths corridor, the reason why we chose this location in the school was because it had the perfect lighting and mis en scene which is crucial when you are filming so the audience understand the background of the story which seemed perfect in a maths class that looked very old and haunting.

Here we have two images of the location from the outside where we will be mainly shooting, as you can see from the image at the top left, the class room doesnt look that very scary or spooky with the lights on, whereas the image on the top right has the lights off and was taken late at evening rougly 7-8pm where it is more spooky and scary than the first image.

In this image below is the corridor where the zombie/demon will come inside and attack the students one by one, this image shows clearly how a simple school building can be turned into a horror scene if you film at night, which looks amazing for those horror lovers and makes a big diffrence if you film at day time.

Target audience

It's crucial to do research and find out your target audience for your film, if not then you might be aiming at the wrong people who wont even bother looking at your film. to find your "core" target audience you first have to do demographic research, which is the age you are aiming at, the gender, type of class and ethnicity. once you have done that you have a good idea of your core target audience and do other types of research in order to expand you films target audience.

the average age that people watch horror films is between the ages of 18-24, there isnt much of gap between gender, social class and ethnicity because it is pretty much balanced when it comes to horror films especially ours, where it is similar to Paranormal Activity, many people had gone to watch that type of horror because it was something new and diffrent which people in this modern day love to watch, here is a graph that shows precisely of population of people who watched horror films and their age.

After CASE production group had looked at the graph we all had a good idea of who to aim our 2 minute film at. the main story of our film is a demon/ghost attacking 3 students in detention one by one, so this meant since its going to be students aged between 16-18, the film target audience will need to be low because not alot of elderly people will tend to watch horror especially about students specifically ages above 30+. we are not much concerned about social class, because normally there is a balance between social class in watching horror genre films. as you can see above up to 48% of 18-24 year olds go to watch horror movies so we had though to broaden the age limit to 16-24 year olds which would help to expand the amount of views that it will be watched. this target audience is aimed at both gender and any social class and ethnicity its mainly aimed at the teenagers and young adults because the majority age group who watch horror movies are between the ages of 18-24, which seemed perfect to have ours 16-24.

We also did further research within our school, we had thought it be a better idea if we asked between ages of 14-18 in what kind of genre film they would watch and why, this had a better outcome because our results where first hand and it give us a good updated view in what teenagers really like to watch. after we had asked and got the results there was a variety of answers but we had a clear understanding in which target audience to choose from, 10% of people in the Windsor boys school, aged between 14-18 said they prefer Thriller and others, 20% of the people in WBS said they'd prefer to watch comedy, whereas 30% of the people in WBS said they prefer Action genre and the rest of the 40% who we had asked in the windsor boys school said they prefer Horror genre than any other, which showed infact that horror is very popular and most talked about in school especially at ages between 14-18, which was a great result for us in finding a right target audience, although we asked smajority of boys it still showed us in what teenagers preferred to watch.

2 minute film opening

We got together as a group and though of ideas, in what has been recently been most watched for example action, thriller or even comedy. we ended having great ideas for a genre and chose for horror. the problem was to find a type of horror theme or story, because there are so many so we did abit of research and found majority of horror lovers enjoy watching zombie based story line, so as a group we had decided to follow this idea. we eventually watched a couple of trailers and films that are horror/zombie based films and had alot of ideas that were very useful but hard to put together so this took time to think deeply and get a good rough idea of a 2 minute film opening, we had though of a film that was a successful zombie based film, which was 28 weeks later and took a couple of main ideas from that.

Preliminary Task

In our group CASE Production, which is Chris, Adnan, Ekjot and myself we have decided in order to acheive a suitable preliminary task we needed to not make it perfect but simple enough that it has all the rules and requirments for the AS coursework which were;

* 180 degree rule
* Match on action
* Shot reverse shot
* Dialogue

so as a group we had thought of a simple and recognisable idea, which was a typical Mafia deal scene, where one member of a gang hands over the "goods" towards the other member of the gang who are the "Mafia" in which they give something back in return, however once the members of the gang hand over the merchandise to the Mafia leader and walk away, the boss realises he had been scammed. then we had thought of scripting a well enough dialogue for the characters so that it would look realistic enough that the audience would notice what is the storyline, we had filmed this in a school outside a building which wouldnt reveal too much detail of the location, because it was a secret gang deal.

after we had filmed it, we had edited on Apple Macs and used a software called Final cut express, this is where i had did the most of the editing because i wanted to get alot familiar with the tools so that my final peice would look better which is the whole point of the preliminary task, after i had edited and used my own sound from garage band, i then asked ekjot to finish it off with the credits and publishing our logo with it which should be uploaded soon on Youtube on our channel. so please feel free to check it out and subscribe, here is the link to our Youtube channel.

Hermeneutic Codes

Roland Barthes, who was known as a french literary therorist had devloped a theory which are five major codes within a story that are interwiven in order to create a meaning, two of the codes are proaretic code and the other is Hermeneutic code. these narrative codes help film producers to find out what is going to be in the audiences minds by the storyline or a sequence of a film so that it is the story is effective and makes sense.

Also known as enigma codes, Hermeneutic codes are simply unanswered questions that the audience have which want answered, this is where a film storyline doesnt explain into too much detail and leaves unanswered question, therefore the audience wishes it to be resovled. normally many films leave a question in the beginning and reveal the answer at the near end, some may leave cliffhangers in order to keep the audience attention drawn in. Hermenuetic codes consists a variety of points in order to acheive it. which are, The snare, where there is a deliberate avoidence of the truth or a tease which sends the audiences mind into a diffrent path. Partial answers, which reveals some but not all of the final truth, mainly used to increase suspense of the storyline. Equivocation, this has a mixture of the first two points, where theres is some reveal of the truth but not all and a diversion in order to create suspense, and the last one Jamming, where the story suggests towards the audience the the problem is impossible to unsolve or finish it.

Proairetic code, is simply actions that suggest further actions/reactions hence why its known as the action code. for example to gang leaders meet up with their gangs the two leaders have an argument, the audience will make guesses of the outcome of this action and reaction, which is why in alot of films proairetic code is useful to build suspense and tension.

for our 2 minute film opening, we are going to use many types of hermeneutic codes but a main one at the end where the audience have a big question in their mind which is "why" typically ask alot in horror films especially zombie based horror moves, where the question asked by the audience why is everyone chasing or eating one another. in Case production we have thought of doing a similar story to 28 days later or 28 weeks later which is a horror genre and zombie attacking based storyline, we thought it would be perfect for the target audience we are aiming at and the idea is simple and unique.

Film openings

I Robot

I Robot, has a interesting film opening because it starts of with credits showing law of what robots have to obey otherwise they are breaking a law. The credits where shown in a unsual place which had looked like people drowning in their car in a deep river and saved by a robot, then Will smith wakes up after seeing a flash back of the past, he turns to the side stoping the alarm clock while holding a gun and looks to be getting readying for his work although it is set in the future Will Smith's character seemed to be more backward and prefered to be more retro fashion for example converses, old stereo and the props around him. he seemed not to like the looks of robots after a robot had knocked at his door to give him information about a business which he had ignored and carried on walking away.

This film is about a character which is Will Smith who is in the far future, but is very retro and old fashioned in the way his lifestyle is compared to others, he prefers it to be like this because he is used to the way that people get up and did things themselves rather than having computers and robots to do work automatically, he has a fear with robots and doesnt seem to trust them, although he is in the future and everything and everyone has something to do with robots Will Smith character doesnt want to see them at all because of his past event that reminds him of his loss of family due to the robots. however later on in the film he begins to find out what really is wrong and what really is right with having robots around you doing what humans used to do.

The day after tommorrow

This film starts of with a birds eye veiw seemed to be p.o.v. shot of a helicopter going over the Arctic where many ice bergs where in many peices and seemed to be melting away then you see a couple of scientists researching in the arctic and digging deep with a drill type of machine after a while the ice starts to crack and begins to fall which one scientists is hanging on to the edge and the other two are trying to help him up.

TDAT is a great film which shows mainly on New York City hitting and Ice age and getting wiped out by the sea, not only is new york getting this disaster but the rest of the world. this film mainly shows a couple of students who have come to study but end up being in this natural disaster and have no way of escape otherwise they could freeze to death, the only way they survive is staying indoors and burning books to keep themselves warm but for how long will they be able to do this? which is why this film is significant and thrilling by its storyline and its suprising scenes of New York City in a massive ice age disaster.

I am legend

this film opening starts of with a scene from the news where a reporting is asking the scientists that if she has found a cure for cancer which she replies "yes" after this it cuts to New york city in 3 years later showing how empty and unclean it is becuase of the fact know one seemed to be alive after a veiw over New York being empty, someone in a mustang seemed to be driving really fast in the emptyness of New york City. It cuts to see the characters in the car who were Will Smith and his dog hunting for something after a while it showed they where trying to hunt down a heard of deers that were running around New York aimlessly. then Will Smith trys to aims his sniper at one of his deers but fails because the heard of deers had ran into a underground passage, but then Will Smith trys to chase them behind but ends up being stuck because of the amount of cars ahead of him was stopping him from reaching the heard of deers ahead.

I Am Legend is a film about scientist discoverying a cure for a uncurable disease which is cancer, this was shown in the beginning of the film from a news report, and later showed the disaster which led the whole of New York City to be empty and left alone, the city is literally living by its self there is know other life other than Will smith and his dog who are still there finding a way to get people out of this mess in new york, we see in the film that there is other people living in new york but hiding because they are not in human form, but are changed into zombie like people living in the darkness of the big apple, Will Smith is taking the responsibility to search for other human beings around and save them, and also to find a cure for the zombie like people who were originally human beings.

my name Sulaiman and i go to Windsor Boys School, i am currently Study a variety of 4 Subjects which are interesting one of them is media studies which i enjoy doing because i learn a new skill in each individual lessons i have with my two teacher's i have currently started my second unit which is baisically coursework, in which i will be working with Chris, Ekjot and Adnan in film making and editing which should be interesting.
